A joint fundraiser was held on Wednesday, April 27, 2016, for the Historic Central Church Building Preservation Endowment Fund and the Carl Sandburg Historic Site Endowment.  Gail Masinda, Director of Music for Central Church, gave the opening remarks and played a selection on the Triumvirate Memorial organ.  Barry Swanson then talked about Sandburg’s 1953 appearance at Central.  The needs of the two facilities were shared by Rev. Dr. Sterrett Collins, pastor of Central Church, and Bill Morris, representing the Sandburg Association.  The remainder of the evening was the program “Parallel Paths: The Poetry of Carl Sandburg and the Music of Chris Vallillo,”  presented by Chris Vallillo.  The freewill offering was split equally between the two endowment funds.
